Cuddles Clothing for Kids

Cuddles Clothing for Kids

Cuddles Clothing for Kids is the “pay it forward” project of Amy Johnson, a single mother of six boys who escaped an abusive marriage, moved to Windsor, and enrolled in the local university’s Law School. The Windsor Star did a story about her. I admired her achievements and decided to offer my support by providing a website and hosting at no charge.

Safe and Secure Computing

Safe and Secure Computing – 2013

This incarnation of the Safe and Secure Computing website employs a responsive website template to ensure that the website will look acceptable on both tablets and full-screen computers. Although the template will adjust to smartphone form factors, it is not an ideal website for such a small screen.

The main improvement in this version is the automatic generation of the “Testimonials” page, directly from a database of customer surveys. The previous version of the website required that testimonials be hand copied into the constantly growing testimonials page document.

World Institute for Action Learning - Canada

WIAL Canada – 2013

WIAL Canada is the website for the World Institute for Action Learning – Canadian affiliate.

WIAL Canada wanted a website that could be easily managed by the non-technical staff. Using the popular WordPress system as a platform, we provided the ability not only to post articles, but also host an events calendar and e-commerce enabled registration system for educational events.

Note: This website has undergone a redesign.

Earnest Bagel (placeholder page)

Earnest Bagel

Earnest Bagel is a brand new bagel shop that just opened in my home town. I tried their product and loved it. I picked up their business card to visit their website – only to find they didn’t have one yet. So, I threw together this temporary placeholder page to help them get through their initial “busy” period before actually designing a proper website. This landing page contains their hours of operation, phone number (with a CALL button that works with mobile devices) and a link to their facebook page.

There’s also a mobile version of the site, but it will only be displayed if the mobile device reports back that it is a phone with limited screen size.

Marukin Steak & Sushi Restaurant

Marukin Steak & Sushi Restaurant (Desktop)

The Marukin Steak & Sushi restaurant had an appealing website, created in 2009. When the restaurant branched out to include Thai cuisine; the restaurant’s owner was unable to contact the original web designer to update the website. JEM Software was retained to redesign the site to accommodate today’s responsive and mobile themes and to incorporate the extended menu in the process.

The Marukin Steak & Sushi restaurant website marked the first implementation of a web-based database to identify the visitor’s device (rather than relying on the browser). This ensures that smartphone users received content that is tailor-made for people on the go.

Since then, the site has undergone another redesign to incorporate the newer “responsive design” strategy, where a single website design is served to mobile users in a slightly different format.

JEM Software took over hosting duties in early 2020 after the original hosting company began making plans to close down.

Campaign Website (mobile version)

Vote for Milt (Mobile) – 2012

The mobile version of this website was designed for Milton Dzodin, a candidate for a Michigan District position, to support his campaign during the November 2012 election season. The website presented information about the candidate, as well as providing a means of requesting support. This website is no longer online, as the campaign has ended.

Frosty's on the Lake

Frosty’s on the Lake (Desktop) – 2012

Frosty’s on the Lake presented an interesting mix of challenges. The artwork and type of “feel” that the client wanted to use was not in step with any templated solutions, so we needed to use a mix of tools to enforce a basic navigation template that allowed for creativity on each specific page.

In addition, once the site went live, an analysis of visitor statistics indicated that a significant number were visiting from mobile platforms, leading to the addition of a mobile-optimized version of the site as well.
